Obituary: John Call, 96, Cedar Creek
John Call, 96, a resident of the Cedar Creek Community, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born May 22, 1921, in Washington County. He was a member of the First Cedar Creek Baptist Church, a retired farmer, a retired employee of Jim Beam Distillery and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served his country in Alaska, helped build the Alaska Highway, was a barber and a member of the military police.
He was preceded in death by one son, Dr. J. Larry Call; his parents, Miller and Martha Call; two sisters, Plumie Call and Christine Call White; one brother, Marvin Call; one son-in-law, Victor J. Stansbury; and one grandson, Mason Daniel Call.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Iva Lee Call; one daughter, Joan Call Stansbury; two sons, David Call and Ron (Linda) Call; a special relative, Jimmie Stamper; one brother, Charles (Buck) Call; 12 grandchildren, Michael Call, Dwayne Call, Neysa Call, Vickie Stansbury Thompson, Chris Stansbury, Jon Stansbury, Lance Call, Lyndsey Call, Taylor Nalley, Tyler Nalley, Jacob Call, and Clayton Call; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at the First Cedar Creek Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, and 8-10:15 a.m. Friday, at Barlow Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to The First Cedar Creek Baptist Church or to the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
