Obituary: David ‘Dave’ Joseph Bade, 79, Bardstown

David “Dave” Joseph Bade, 79, of Bardstown, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017. He was born May 9, 1938, in Elmhurst, Ill.

He graduated from St. Norbert College where he was an active member of the ROTC. He spent his career as a salesman. As such, his job moved him and his young family to many states. His last move became his final destination as there is no doubt that this enchanting little town in Kentucky is where he and his wife were meant to live out the rest of their lives. This city boy and his city wife fell in love with the Bluegrass State and much to the chagrin of their city kids, began to listen to country music. They insisted their kids call them “sir” and “ma’am” and eventually bought a farm where Dave learned to become a farmer, which he loved more than anything. He raised Angus cows, Golden Retrievers, learned to drive a tractor and enjoyed every day he had to work on the farm.

As a young man, he was a member of the National Guard. Dave was actively involved with the St. Joseph Boy Scout Troop 147 and the Order of the Arrow for many years. He was also involved with the Nelson County 4-H and Pony clubs.

He was known for his charming personality, generous nature, and great sense of humor as he had a joke for every situation. He loved fishing, golfing, watching the Chicago Blackhawks and the Cubbies. He had the gift of song and spent many years as a member of the West Towns Barbershop Chorus in Illinois, The Louisville Thoroughbred Chorus, appeared in several plays and enjoyed singing at Mass.

We thank our Heavenly Father for the life of Dave Bade. He was cherished as an incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is finally at peace. He will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Vera Bade.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sharon Maurine Bade; four daughters, Kathleen Bade of Minneapolis, Kristin (Frank) Voltarel of Wheaton, Ill., Lisa (Kevin) Cornish of Sellersburg, Ind., and Susan (Suki) Bade Brown of Bardstown; one son, Christopher Bade of Bardstown; two brothers, John (Bobbie) Bade of Eagle, Colo., and Dick (Joanne) Bade of Elmhurst, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Bailey (John) Clayton and Olivia Cornish, both of Louisville, Madeleine Cornish of Sellersburg, Ind., Ryan Berzins of Bigfork, Minn., Claire Voltarel of Wheaton, Ill., and Payton Brown and Reese Brown, both of Bardstown, and Jillian Cornish; and six great-grandchildren.

His Memorial Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
