Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 — Dawn Pryzstal, the executive director of the Bardstown-Nelson Tourism and Convention Commission, has announced she will resign effective Sept. 29.
Pryzstal, who has worked for the commission since 2004, said she’s leaving to pursue another tourism-related venture.
“For several years I have wanted to start my own travel and tourism consulting business,” Przystal said. “My family and professional considerations have aligned so that now is the time to pursue my goal.”
The Bardstown native began working at the commission as a student. She was hired as vice president of tourism expansion and marketing in 2004. She became executive director last year.
During her tenure, Przystal represented Bardstown and Nelson County on various regional and state tourism-related commissions and organizations.
“We appreciate all of the strides Dawn has made for Bardstown Tourism over the last 13 years,” commission chair Josh Hollifield said through a press release. “We wish Dawn all the best in her new business.”
Kim Huston, president of the Nelson County Economic Development Agency, noted that Dawn helped to increase the economic and quality of life benefits tourism brings to the community during her tenure, and she elevated the role and productivity of the commission in general.
“Dawn shined her best when educating the dozens of tour and travel writers she hosted over the last decade about Bardstown and Nelson County and all the wonders we have to offer here,” Huston said. “She was and will always be a great ambassador for our tourism community.”
The Bardstown-Nelson County Tourism Commission will meet to discuss the search process for a new Executive Director. The Commission had recently advertised for a new Communications and Marketing position for the Tourism Commission and has put that hiring process on hold.
