Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 — The Bardstown Fire Department has been working this week to prepare a two-story North Third Street home that they plan to destroy by fire as part of a controlled live-fire training event Saturday. The exercise will include the participation of other area fire departments, including the Northeast Nelson Fire Department and the Nelson County Fire Department.

According to a fire department press release, the fire training will run 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Area residents may see smoke visible in the area as the fire training progresses. Fire trucks and other equipment will also be at the scene.

The training allows firefighters the opportunity to experience a live fire in a controlled and safe manner, providing valuable experience.

According to records of Nelson County Property Administrator Barbara Tichenor, the home — located at 1405 North Third St. — is a two-story home that was built in 1895. The records show the home was purchased by the Newcomb Oil Co. in Dec. 2016 for $220,000.
