Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, 2 p.m. — City of Bardstown firefighters participated in the Scott Safety Firefighter Combat Challenge on Sept. 10, 2017, at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
While wearing approximately 60 pounds of gear and equipment, firefighters must climb a 40-foot tower carrying a 42 lb. hose pack. Then they are required to hoist another hose pack 40-feet up the tower. They then climb down the tower and strike a 160-pound simulated forcible entry machine continuously with a 9-pound sledge hammer until it moves five feet. Participants next navigate through a hydrant serpentine course, advance a charged hoseline 75 feet, and drag a 175 lb. mannequin a distance of 106 feet. All of this must be done in less than two minutes.
The Bardstown Fire Department firefighters qualified and will advance to the Scott Firefighter Combat World Challenge in Jeffersontown and Louisville the week of Oct. 23-28, 2017.
The first four days are preliminary rounds to select the teams who will compete in the finals on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28.
The event will be held in the parking lot of the Marriott Louisville East, 1903 Embassy Square Blvd. in Louisville near the intersection of I-65 and Hurstbourne Lane.
The event will be open to the public.
