Obituary: Joseph Carl ‘Joe’ Lyvers, 85
Joseph Carl “Joe”Lyvers, 85, died peacefully Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 16, 1932, in Nelson County to the late William Robert and Mary Marie Cecil Lyvers. He was a retired 37-year employee of General Electric and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Ballard Lyvers; one son, Todd Lyvers; two sisters, Viola Smith and Beatrice Knopp; and five brothers, Vernie Lyvers, Fabian Lyvers, Bernard Lyvers, J.P. Lyvers and Leo Lyvers.
He is survived by four daughters, Angela (Norb) Taylor of New Albany, Ind., Michelle (Bill) Donahue of Louisville, Tracy (Steven) Taylor of Cox’s Creek, and Dawn (Bobby Dale) Williams of Boston; three sons, Tim (Sharon) Lyvers of New Haven, and Brad (Mary Lynn) Lyvers and Kevin (Jenny) Lyvers, both of Bardstown; three sisters, Lucille Edelen of Loretto, Bernice Ferriell of Louisville and Joyce Hornback of Lexington; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with the Rev. Jason Harris celebrant. Burial is in the Holy Cross Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, and after 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in Bardstown with a prayer service Sunday evening.
The family requests memorial donations be made in the form of contributions to the Nelson County Court Appointed Special Advocates (NELCASA) program.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
