Obituary: Donald A. Sprowles, 80, Buffalo
Donald A. Sprowles, 80, of Buffalo, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was born Nov. 20, 1936, in LaRue County to the late Bennie and Bessie Bray Sprowles. He was an active member of Wesley Meadows Methodist Church with more than 40 years of members. He was the song leader for 40 years; he was a Sunday School teacher and chairman of the board for 20 years at the church. He was a teacher for 33-1/2 years at LaRue County High School where he was a social studies sponsor. He was the 7th and 8th-grade basketball coach. He was the first high school basketball coach. He was the manager of the LaRue County Parks and Recreation for more than 17 years. He kept the books for the high school basketball games. He was an employee of the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel for two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Bessie Bray Sprowles; one sister, Janette Burress; and two brothers, Dennis Sprowles and Bobby Sprowles.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Wicker Sprowles of Buffalo; one daughter, Paula Sprowles of Horse Cave; two sons, Greg Sprowles of Louisville and Brian Sprowles of Buffalo; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Scoot Sprowles of Louisville and Peggy Sprowles of Hodgenville; two grandchildren, Madison and Zachary; and several nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel, with Bro. Bob Daugherty, Andrew Singh and Bro. Wallace officiating. Burial is in the Highview Methodist Church Cemetery in Gleanings.
The William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel, 612 North Lincoln Blvd. in Hodgenville is in charge of arrangements.
