Obituary: William S. ‘Billy’ Mattingly, 83, Lebanon

William S. “Billy” Mattingly, 83, of Lebanon, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. He was born Aug. 22, 1934, in Marion County. He was retired employee of Owens-Illinois in Bardstown and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Francis and Mary Melvina “Mallie” Spalding Mattingly; his stepmother, Leola Medley Mattingly; five sisters, Betty Lou Brady, Eleanora Wade, Ruth Ann Sapp, Jeanette Hughes and Jane Nally; two infant brothers, Joe Vincent and Henry Francis Mattingly; and one stepbrother, Darryl Medley.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Doris Mattingly; four sons, Terry Mattingly (Denise) of Raywick, Rick Mattingly of Georgetown, David Mattingly (Susan) of Louisville and Mike Mattingly of Lebanon; three sisters, Eunice Luckett and Fran Craven (Donnie), both of Louisville and Rosie Mattingly of Lebanon; six stepsisters, Carmel Cecil (Bernard) of New Hope, Beverly Simms and Mary Cambron (David), both of Loretto, Martha Mattingly (Frank) of Bardstown, Kathy Graves (David) of Louisville and Jeanie Edelen (Mike) of Fisherville; six stepbrothers, Carl Medley of Louisville, Jimmy Medley (Burma), Sammy Medley (Cheryl) and Tommy Medley (Rita), all of Loretto, Leo Medley (Cathy) of Taylorsville and Charles Wayne Medley (Debbie) of Lebanon; eight grandchildren, Nikki Mattingly Waldeck, Daniel Mattingly, Scott Mattingly, Jordan Mattingly, Allison Adams, Morgan Lane, Davis Mattingly and Will Mattingly; and five great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 108 Main St., Raywick with the Rev. David W. Naylor officiating.

Burial is in the church cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
