Sheriff’s investigation determines man’s Nelson County death was not a homicide

Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 — A Louisville man was found dead Tuesday morning in a wooded area at the end of Harrison Fork Road near the Nelson-Bullitt County line.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, deputies were dispatched to assist with the search with the person who reported the death in an area off Harrison Fork Road. Officers and the person who reported the death searched the woods Monday until dark, and the search resumed Tuesday.

The body of the deceased man, Joseph Steven Gilkey, 53, of Louisville, was located in the woods were he and a friend had been camping in the days before his death.

An autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office determined the death was not a homicide. Police say they do not believe foul play was involved in the death.
