Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017 — The Nelson County Board of Education approved a contract to use the services of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA) to conduct a search for a new district superintendent.

Board member Diane Berry expresses her support for the board’s choice of KASA as the firm that will conduct a search for the district’s next superintendent.

At its board meeting Tuesday night, the board OK’d the $9,000 contract to cover KASA’s services, that include the actual superintendent search, screening applicants and ultimately presenting the board with well-documented and researched applicants.

KASA will also conduct public outreach to help determine the qualities the community wants to see in the district’s next superintendent.

The board members agreed that the search would not be rushed.

The board approved contract close-out documents for 13 of the 14 bid packages for the Thomas Nelson High School auditorium project. Tim Hockensmith, the district’s chief operating officer, said some minor things needed to be addressed before the final approval could be granted.

The questions will be drawn from the test administered by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to persons seeking to become naturalized citizens. A 60 or higher grade will be considered a passing score. The requirement was approved by the Kentucky General Assembly earlier this year.
