Obituary: James Brian Hodge, 76, Bardstown

JAMES BRIAN HODGE

James Brian Hodge, 76, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. He was born April 29, 1941, in Rutherfordton, N.C., to the late Edwin and Helen Ford Hodge. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and retired in 1977 after 20 year of service. He continued working with the former Southern Exterminators where he was known as the “bug man.” He worked for Jim Beam and Brown Heating and Air and moved back to North Carolina and retired in 2003 from Reeves Brothers as a banbury operator. He was a member of the Naval Fleet Reserve in North Carolina and was a member of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Ford.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Carol Collins Hodge; one son, Terry (Mary Helen) Hodge of Bardstown; one sister, Mary Helen (Jennings) Morgan of Rutherfordton, N.C.; one brother, Eddie Hodge of Rutherfordton, N.C.; one grandchild, Christy “Toni” (Mark) Ashby of Cox’s Creek; two great-grandchildren, Christian Blake Ashby and Kyler Mark Ashby.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with burial in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
