Obituary: Joseph Anthony ‘Tony’ Cissell, 79, of Lebanon

Joseph Anthony “Tony” Cissell, 79, of Cedars of Lebanon Nursing Home in Lebanon, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at Spring View Hospital. He was born Jan. 20, 1938, in Loretto. He worked at Marion County Industries and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Leo and Mary Zita Miles Cissell; one sister, Geneva Walker; two brothers, Bernard and Harold Cissell; and one nephew, Leon Cissell Jr.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Florence Sapp (Leslie) and Mary Jane Nugent (Ray), both of Loretto; five brothers, Donald Cissell (Norma Jean), Joe Cissell (Janet), Leon Cissell (Rose), Bob Cissell and Charles Cissell, all of Loretto; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cissell of Loretto and Shirley Cissell of Louisville; one brother-in-law, Tom “Leachman” Walker of Bardstown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto, with the Rev. Bill Bowling officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a 7 p.m. prayer service by Deacon Joseph R. Dant.

Memorial donations may go to the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery Fund, c/o the church.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
