Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 — The timeline for hiring a new superintendent for Nelson County Schools was reviewed at the board of education’s meeting Thursday evening.
The first step — an organizational meeting — was completed Oct. 17.
The timeline — which school board chair Diane Breeding noted is subject to change in the event of inclement weather — anticipates the board hiring a superintendent at its April 17, 2018 board meeting.
But the timeline indicates there’s a lot of work to be done before that final step.
The search process is being guided by the representatives of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators.
On Nov. 13, the search process begins with the start of a survey period that will seek input from staff, parents and the community to determine the skills and qualities sought by the community in its next superintendent.
The survey period will end Dec. 8.
The search process includes a community forum set for 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30th.
On Dec. 19, the board will conduct a work session to establish the criteria and desired qualities in screening superintendent applicants.
The superintendent job opening will be posted on Jan. 2, 2018 with an application deadline of Feb. 26, 2018. Once the application window closes, the screening committee will begin its work.
The screening committee will have three weeks to conduct is work; it will forward its recommendations to the Board of Education on March 16, 2018. The board will hold a working session on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, to determine the final candidates, and their names will be released to the public the following day.
From March 26th to the 29th, the board will interview the finalists, then meet again between April 9-13 to reach a decision and conduct contract negotiations, with the goal of making appointing the new superintendent at the Tuesday, April 17, 2018 board meeting.
Editor’s Note: The principals from each of the district’s school reviewed their schools’ KPREP results at Thursday’s work session. Look for a detailed story about the score discussions and video in an upcoming story on the Nelson County Gazette.
