Obituary: Jane Gayle Birch Shewmaker, 80, Mackville

Jane Gayle Birch Shewmaker, 80, of Mackville, died at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was a native of Washington County, born March 3, 1937, to the late Edward and Beulah Shewmaker Birch.

She was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church where she served as the church pianist. She was a 1955 graduate of Willisburg High School and attended the University of Kentucky.

Survivors include her husband, Carlton Shewmaker; two sons, Ritchie Shewmaker (Lisa) of Louisville and Greg Shewmaker (Diane) of Lexington; one brother, Michael Birch (Mae) of Athens, Georgia; and six grandchildren, Adam Shewmaker (Allie), Lindsay Shewmaker, John Shewmaker, Isaac Shewmaker, Matthew Shewmaker and Elise Shewmaker.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at the New Harmony Baptist Church with church pastor the Rev. Barry Harmon officiating, assisted by the Rev. Chuck Robinson. Burial is in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home and 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.

The Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
