Obituary: Thomas Frank Edelen, 89, formerly of Springfield

Thomas Frank Edelen, 89, of Louisville, formerly of Springfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017. He was born in Springfield and was a retired employee of General Electric where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church and a member of the Krispy Kreme “morning coffee club.” He was a loving father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Louise; and one brother, George Edelen.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Edelen; two sons, Glenn C. Edelen (Leah) and Mike Edelen (Denise); his ex-wife, Louise Edelen; one brother, Paul “Dutch” Edelen; eight grandchildren, Bruce, Jeff (Allison), Andrew (Janie), Nick, Alex (Brittany), Scott, Eric and Meredith; and six great-grandchildren, Christopher, Grace, Spencer, Griffin, Isabella and Nolan.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the entire staff at the Altenheim for the outstanding care shown to Tom during his stay.

The funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at St. Raphael Church, Bardstown Road at Lancashire Avenue, with burial following in the Cave Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to The Altenheim or to Trinity High School.

The Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
