Norman resigns his seat representing 1st District on county board of education

Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017 — Nelson County Board of Education member David Norman submitted his resignation from the school board at the end of Tuesday night’s board of education meeting.

“I am disappointed to announce that I am resigning from the Nelson County School Board,” Norman’s resignation began.

Norman represents the county’s 1st District, which includes most of southern Nelson County.

“Recently, I found out that I am ineligible to be on the board due to my job as an equipment operator at the Nelson County Road Department. I have enjoyed the last 3 years and am proud of the work that this board has accomplished. I would like to thank this board and all the teachers and principals of the Nelson County Schools. I would also like to thank the people of District 1 for their support.”

Residents of his district reacted with disappointment on social media after Norman posted ‘s social media post regarding his resignation.

Appointing a replacement to fill Norman’s board seat falls to the Kentucky Commissioner of Education according to state law.

The vacancy will be filled within 90 days, and the replacement board member must meet the qualifications to serve on the board. The appointed board member will serve until the next election.
