Election 2018: Third Democrat files as a candidate for Nelson County jailer

Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 — The third candidate has filed for the office of Nelson County Jailer, and the current county attorney recent filed for re-election.

John “Buck” Snellen filed Wednesday as a Democratic candidate for Nelson County Jailer. Snellen is the third registered Democrat to file for the office. He will face incumbent jailer Dorcas Figg and challenger Michael P. Johnson in the May 22, 2018 Democratic primary.

On Monday, Nelson County Attorney Matthew Hite filed his paperwork for re-election. Hite said Tuesday he’s enjoyed serving as county attorney. He previously served as assistant county attorney under former county attorney John Kelley.

The last day to file as a candidate for an office that must run in the May 2018 primary is 4 p.m. Jan. 30, 2018.
