Family left homeless after fire ravages historic Stinson Drive home

Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 — A historic Stinson Drive home was heavily damaged by fire late Wednesday night, leaving a family without a home on Thanksgiving eve.

At about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nelson County Dispatch received multiple calls regarding a home on fire at the corner of Stinson Drive and Greenfield Way.

According to police who arrived first at the scene, the rear part of the home was heavily involved in flames. The Nelson County Fire Department responded, as did Nelson County EMS. Additional help was requested from the Bardstown Fire Department. The family escaped without injury, first-responders reported.

Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures. The American Red Cross was requested to respond to assist the family with immediate housing needs.

According to the Property Valuation Administrator website, the 2,676 square-foot, four bedroom home was built about 1840.

Fire crews were still on the scene when this report was posted Wednesday night.
