Obituary: Hobert Lee ‘Toby’ Watson, 93, Elizabethtown
Hobert Lee “Toby” Watson, 93, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was born and raised in Boston where he played basketball and ran track. He was a past Master of Masonic Lodge in El Dorado, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He loved travelling the country and other countries with his work, overseeing building and construction refineries. He was instrumental in building the first refinery in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, Africa, and Trinidad. During his travels he left a mark as a loving and caring person, husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to fish, bird hunt, play golf, and tell jokes.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Lee Watson; his parents, John Watson and Gladys Watson-Newton; five siblings, James Watson, Johnny Watson, Juanita Vittitow, Lillian Harrel, and Gladys Rae Clark; and one half sister, Betty Lou Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandy Watson; two daughters, Tobi Watson Sharp of Elizabethtown and Rebecca Colleen Barry of Murcia, Spain; one son, Richard Dodd “Dickie” Watson of Elizabethtown; two half siblings, Sammy Newton of Elizabethtown and JoAnn Thompson of Bardstown; four grandchildren, Joshua Barry, Ashley (Lucas) White, Rebecca Frye, and Lindsay Sharp; one great-grandchild, Gabriel “Gabe” Shoults; and several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at the Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin Roberts officiating. Burial is in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff.
Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
