Obituary: Catherine Lillian ‘Cattie’ Newton, 83, Holy Cross

Catherine Lillian “Cattie” Newton, 83, of Holy Cross, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at the Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary. She was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Nelson County. She formerly worked as a dietitian at the Loretto Motherhouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Otho “Bud” Newton; one infant son, Charles Otho Newton Jr.; her parents, Thomas Leslie Clark Sr. and Mary Roxie Sims Clark; and four brothers, Junior Clark, Wally Clark, Frank Clark and Joe Clark.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Lawson (James) of Cox’s Creek and Lisa Hutchins (Doug) of St. Francis; nine sons, Roger Newton, Timmy Newton (Arlene) and Keith Newton (Lisa), all of Springfield, Ricky Newton (Donna), Calvin Newton, Terry Newton and Dale Newton (Susan), all of Loretto, and Les Newton and Rob Newton, both of Louisville; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 59 New Haven Road, Loretto with the Rev. Bryan Lamberson officiating with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
