Obituary: Evelyn June Kemper, 78

Evelyn June Kemper, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017. She was born to Torrence and Leola Colbert in Corydon, Ind., on Aug. 14, 1939. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in 1958. She was a long-time member of the National Geographic Society and an avid bowler into her late 60’s. She liked to work in her yard on a daily basis when able, loved books and enjoyed painting the house and found ironing to be fun (really!?). Evelyn loved to travel, she visited Bermuda, Jamaica, Portugal, Italy, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Mexico, and of course, her favorite home in Pine Island, Florida.

EVELYN JUNE KEMPER

She had a bit of a wild streak in her youth we only recently heard her tell. Twice she was found in a misappropriated car driven by a wild boy. Once, Elvis was in town visiting his grandmother and mom and a friend climbed a trellis and attempted to peek in his bedroom.

She was a member of the Johnny Mathis Fan Club and traveled the country to see his concerts. One of her recent confessions was she just wanted to go out with him and talk, Bill could have came along too.

She was a great Mom to six children. She sewed clothes and cooked a huge meal every night. She was an awesome mamaw. She taught love and patience.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Kemper Sr.; one son, William R. Kemper Jr.; two sisters, Carole Jones and Marian Vaughn; one granddaughter, Jenna Kemper; and one son-in-law, George Roberts.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Kemper and Jennifer Roberts; three sons, Michael Kemper (Carolyn), David Kemper (Karen D.), and Eric Kemper (Veronica); one daughter-in-law, Donna Kemper; one sister, Martha Duryea; 13 grandchildren, Bobby, Krystel, Chris, Nick, Savanna, Cody, Sierra, Cassie, Abi, Eric Jr., Joseph, Henry and Cole; and four great-grandchildren.
