Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 — The first candidate to file for District 5 magistrate filed his declaration to run for the office Friday morning at the office of Nelson County Clerk Elaine Filiatreau.
David M. Williams II, 46, filed as a Republican candidate for the May primary. Williams is the agency manager at the Nelson County Farm Bureau Insurance office on Bloomfield Road in Bardstown.
Rumors that incumbent District 5 Magistrate Jerry Hahn may not seek re-election have continued to circulate. Some have questioned if Hahn will run again following injuries he suffered earlier this year in a tractor accident. Hahn bounced back quickly from those injuries and only missed a handful of fiscal court meetings while recovering.
Hahn is completing his third four-year term as a magistrate for the county’s 5th District.
The deadline to file as a candidate for the May primary is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018.
