Obituary: Anna Evelyn ‘Poppy’ Brown, 94, Bardstown
Anna Evelyn ”Poppy” Brown, 94, of Bardstown, died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Bardstown Health and Rehabilitation. She was born July 1, 1923, in Louisville to the late John Herbert and Nevia Agnes Howell Roberts. She was a housewife who worked at the former J.J. Newberry department store. She was a member of the Bardstown Baptist Church, the Joy Sunday School Class and held a commission as a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dillard O. Brown; one sister, Teresa Rust; one brother, Thomas Roberts; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Reed Brown; and one grandson, Jeffrey Brown.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Frank) Medvecky and Beverly Sue (Harold) Coulter, both of Bardstown; one son, Dillard Wayne Brown of Bardstown; two sisters, Margaret “Arie” Merrifield of Bardstown and Lou (Tom) Downs of Howardstown; one brother, John H. Roberts Jr. of Louisville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved pet Cheeta.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with the Rev. Randal Pollack officiating. Burial is in the Bardstown Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, and 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the for form of donations to the Bardstown Baptist Church.
The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
