Bloomfield man files Friday as Democrat seeking District 5 magistrate seat

Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 — A Bloomfield man is the second candidate to file as a candidate for District 5 magistrate.
Arnold Lane resident Eric W. Shelburne filed his declaration as a candidate Friday in the office of Nelson County Clerk Elaine Filiatreau.
Shelburne filed as a Democrat. To date, only two candidates have filed for the office. Republican David M. Williams II was the first candidate to file for the office on Friday, Dec. 15.
Jerry Hahn, the Democratic incumbent, has not stated publicly if he will run again or not. Hahn is currently serving his third four-year term as District 5 magistrate.
The deadline to file as a candidate for the May primary is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018.
The deadline to change political parties is Dec. 31, 2017. The Nelson County Clerk’s Office will only be open two days between Christmas and New Years — 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27 and Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017. The office will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018.
