Obituary: Joseph Jude Hagan, 52, Springfield

Joseph Jude Hagan, 52, of Springfield, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Holy Cross and was born July 19, 1965 in Marion County. He was a farmer, carpenter, mechanic, and a former employee of Maker’s Mark Distillery.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Everett Hagan; one sister, Nina Smith; one sister-in-law, Belinda Sue Hagan; and two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Blanford and David Mattingly.

Survivors include his mother, Marguerite Cheshire Hagan of Holy Cross; two daughters, Elizabeth Hagan (Alex Simms) of Springfield and Emily Hagan (Michael Sandusky) of Lebanon; two sons, Jonathan Hagan (Sabrina Newton) and Levi Hagan (Angel Graves), both of Springfield; six sisters, Ann Blanford of Holy Cross, Cathy Mattingly and Barbara Hagan, both of Loretto, Vickie Carrico (Brad) and Karen Hagan, both of Bardstown, and Nancy Edelen (Kevin) of Springfield; three brothers, John Earl Hagan and George Hagan, both of Holy Cross, and Max Hagan (Renee) of Raywick; one brother-in-law, Paul Smith of Springfield; two grandsons, Carson Lee Graves and Bradford Simms; and his girlfriend, Susan Hamilton Spalding of Loretto.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 59 New Haven Road, Loretto with Deacon Joseph R. Dant officiating with cremation to follow.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers are Josh Blanford, David Mattingly, Albert Hawkins, Joe Norris, Larry Hawkins and Stacy Mattingly; Honorary Pallbearers are J.E. Mattingly and Chris Spalding.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
