Obituary: Carolyn Strange Edelen, 75, Fredericktown
Carolyn Strange Edelen, 75, of Fredericktown, died at 11:33 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. She was a native of Washington County. She was born Jan. 20, 1942, to the late Hyatt A. and Ollie Mae Croake Strange. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was a graduate of Fredericktown High School, St. Catharine College and Nazareth College. She was a retired school teacher and principal having taught at Fredericktown Elementary School, Washington County High School, Bardstown City School and St. Catherine School in New Haven.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Joseph Leroy Edelen (Jan. 5, 2001); and two brothers, Joe Robert Strange (Nov. 7, 1997) and Marion Strange (May 22, 2013).
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Renee O’Bryan (Jason) of Bardstown and Shannon Greene (Kenny) of Springfield; three sisters, Linda Nally of Fredericktown, Lucy Smith (Francis) and Suzanne Mattingly (Eugene), both of Bardstown; three brothers, Jerome Strange, Larry Strange (Frances Lee) and Kendrick Strange (Mary), all of Bardstown; two sisters-in-law, Bette Strange of Louisville and Bernadine Strange of Bardstown; four grandchildren, Alex O’Bryan, Anna K. O’Bryan, Davis O’Bryan and Joe Charles O’Bryan; and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Hardesty, the church pastor, officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home in Springfield with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
