Obituary: Mattie Chesser Holt, 88, Chaplin

Mattie Chesser Holt, 88, of Chaplin, died at 8:13 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at her home. She was a native of Washington County. She was born Feb. 22, 1929, to the late Walter and Esper Chesser. She was a member of the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Holt (July 26, 2016); one son, Donnie D. Holt (July 8, 2013); five sisters, Lillian Bird, Robbie Stone, Reva Husk, Louise Milburn and Wanda Pritchard; four brothers, J.B. Chesser, Virgil Chesser, Truman Chesser and Raymond Chesser; two half-sisters, Sudie Baker and Artie Thompson; and one half-brother, Sammie Chesser.

Survivors include one daughter, Virta Thomas of Chaplin; one a son, Jackie Holt (Kay) of Chaplin; three sisters, Betty Curtsinger of Willisburg, and Martha Hood and Maureen Lewis, both of Springfield; one brother, Marshall Chesser (Barbara) of Chaplin; one daughter-in-law, Francy Holt of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Missy Bobblett (Kevin), Ginger Moore (Max) and Jacquelyn Cornell (Darren); and four great-grandchildren, Ethan Hillard, John Tyler Steele, Hunter Bobblett and Diesel Moore.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy with the Rev. Keith Creech, the church pastor, officiating. Burial is in the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Thursday at the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Chesser, Glen Curtsinger, Danny Curtsinger, Dennis Curtsinger, Donnie Bird and Keith Stone.

Carey & Son Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
