Obituary: Alice Marie Blackwelder, 75, Bardstown

Alice Marie Blackwelder, 75, of Bardstown, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, with family by her side. She was born July 18, 1942, in Glen Cove, N.Y. to the late James and Gertrude Miller McAleer. She was a former employee of Bardstown Animal Clinic and a volunteer at the Nelson County Humane Society because of her love for animals and being their voice for fair treatment. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Vincent Hochberg; and one brother, Thomas McAleer.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice W. “Maurie” Blackwelder; one daughter, Kim Blackwelder of Bardstown; three sons, Robert (Valerie) Hochberg of Greenville, N.C., Mark Hochberg of Las Vegas, Tom Hochberg of Washington, D.C.; one brother, James McAleer of Locust Valley, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Hochberg, Mary Hochberg, Tyler Hochberg, Hailey Hochberg, Hayden Hochberg and NaLonda Clemons.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at the Houghlin-Greeewell Funeral Home in Bardstown with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating.

Visitation is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions go to the Nelson County Humane Society.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
