Obituary: Arthur Cockriel, KD4JWD, 90, Radcliff

ARTHUR COCKRIEL KD4JWB

Arthur Cockriel, 90, of Radcliff, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at Norton Hospital Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville. He was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church in Radcliff, where he served as treasurer for several years and as a trustee. He was retired from AAFES at Fort Knox and served in the U.S. Army. He was a skilled steel guitarist, who performed with several area bands and taught steel guitar to numerous people. He was a Technician-class Amateur Radio (ham) operator who held the call sign KD4JWD. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a native of Louisville who formerly in Jeffersonville, Ind., and near Caneyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert P. and Edith Cockriel; three sisters, Alta (Marion) Leonard, Gladys (Charles) Sidenstricker and Catherine Cockriel (who died in childhood); two brothers, Albert Cockriel and Delbert Cockriel (who died in childhood); and two nieces, Cathy Morgan and Belinda Revis.

He is survived by two sisters, Jean (James) Royalty and Gloria (Marcen) Clater, both of Radcliff; one brother, Hubert (Virginia) Cockriel of Rineyville; nine nieces, Beverly (Bill) Gray of Georgia, Levodis Royalty, Marlene Royalty Lawson and Pam (Jerry) Overbay, all of Radcliff, Sharon (Jimmy) Vertrees and Brenda (Wayne) Hannahs, both of Louisville, Debbie (Bill) Vance and Lynn (Jeff) Butler, both of Rineyville and Lori (Daryl) Stone of Elizabethtown; five nephews, Don (Ann) Sidenstricker of Elizabethtown, Dennis Sidenstricker of Radcliff, Gary Cockriel of Elizabethtown, Ralph Royalty of Meade County and Troy (Belva) Clater of Radcliff; two nephews who survive their wives, Mark Morgan of Rineyville and Doug Revis of Radcliff; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and numerous cousins.

The funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at the Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove with the Rev. James Royalty officiating. Burial is in Vine Grove Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 and after noon Thursday at the funeral home.
