Victim identified in Monday’s Hwy 1066 weather-related fatal crash

Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 — The man who died in a single-vehicle weather-related accident on Hwy 1066 Monday morning has been identified by Kentucky State Police as William Douglas Cook Jr., 37, of Bloomfield.

According to a KSP press release, the crash was reported to KSP as a sing-vehicle fatal crash near the 5 mile marker on Hwy 1066 east of Bloomfield.

According to the press release, Cook was operating a 2011 Dodge 2500 westbound on 1066 when it struck a patch of ice causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and overturn and strike a tree. A male juvenile passenger in Cook’s truck was uninjured.

Cook was pronounced dead at the scene by the Nelson Co. Coroner’s Office. The accident remains under investigation by KSP Trooper/Reconstructionist Scott Rafferty.

The Northeast Nelson Fire Department, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Nelson County EMS also responded to the scene.
