Obituary: Owen Lee McMakin, 62, Bardstown

Owen Lee McMakin, 62, of Bardstown, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born Nov. 6, 1955, in Bloomfield to the late Harold and Nellie Beeler McMakin Sr. He was a former road construction worker for Nally & Gibson, a farm worker and a member of the Bloomfield Second Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Crystal Maddox and Ann Wise and six grandchildren who perished in 2007 in the house fire that claimed the lives of 10 Bardstown residents.

He is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Maddox of Bardstown; two sons, Owen Maddox andDarrell Maddox, both of Bardstown; two sisters, Vicki (Darryl) Carter of Bloomfield, and Damita Joy (Jeff) Moran of Nashville; two brothers, Harold McMakin of Bardstown, and Claude McMakin of Shelbyville; and 8 grandchildren.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the Bloomfield Second Baptist Church in Bloomfield with the Rev. Joseph Marshall officiating. Burial is in the Bloomfield Cemetery.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church in Bloomfield.

The Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
