Obituary: Vernia Irene Gray, 89, Taylorsville

Vernia Irene Gray, 89, of Taylorsville, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, in Signature Healthcare in Taylorsville. She was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Nelson County to the late Elmer Dewitt and Addie Rae Taylor Coulter. She was a homemaker and a member of the Victory Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Edward Gray; and two brothers, Elmer Coulter Jr. and Bobby Coulter.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Charles) Thomas of Taylorsville and Barbara Gray of Shepherdsville; two sons, James (Debbie) Gray of Taylorsville and Michael Gray of Shepherdsville; and three brothers, Harry Coulter of Taylorsville, Edward Coulter of Bloomfield and James (Carolyn) Coulter of Elizabeth, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at the Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home in Taylorsville with Bro. Winfred Hagerman officiating. Burial is in Penn Run Cemetery in Fern Creek.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

The Greenwell-Houghlin Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.
