Obituary: Frances Rebecca Clements Abell, 99, Lebanon

Frances Rebecca Clements Abell, 99, of Lebanon, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville. She was born Sept. 30, 1918, in Springfield to the late George Thomas and Teresa “Tessie” Carrico Clements. She was lovingly known as “Fannie Brown” to her family and many friends.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Augustine Parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Altar Society member, and religious education teacher. She was a giving volunteer in her community with the Red Cross, Community Service Center, hospice and Springview Hospital. She cherished her Bridge Club friends. She was a 60-year member of an active club and a substitute with other clubs. She played her last bridge game the day she went to the hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Abell; one sister, Elizabeth Clements; four brothers, Ed Clements, George Clements, Marion Clements, and Pat Clements; and one daughter-in-law, Betty Turner Abell.

She is survived by two daughters, Beth (Bob) McClean and Rebecca, both of Louisville; five sons, James Edwin Abell Jr. (Leah) of New Bern, N.C., George (Judy) Abell of Claremont, Calif., J. Patrick (Teresa) Abell of Frankfort, Michael (Sheila) Abell of Bardstown, and Joe (Laura Lee) Abell of Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at St. Augustine Church in Lebanon. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3:30-8 p.m.Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 at Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon.
