Mayor names Bardstown native to serve as city fire department’s next chief

Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 — Bardstown native Billy N. Mattingly has been named at Mayor Dick Heaton’s choice to serve as the Bardstown Fire Department’s next fire chief.
According to a city press release, Chief Mattingly started his career as an EMT with Jefferson County EMS in 1986 where he worked until he was hired as a career firefighter with the Okolona Fire Department in 1991.
By 1993 he had worked his way through the ranks to lieutenant, captain in 1995, and battalion chief in 2007. As Battalion Chief, Mattingly oversaw the administrative and operational duties of three fire houses totaling 18 firefighters. He retired in December 2017 with 26 years of service.
Chief Mattingly will be submitted to the Bardstown City Council for approval at the next council meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018.
