Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 — Gary Coulter, the retired owner of Coulter’s Towing, filed Thursday morning as a Democratic candidate for magistrate in the county’s Second District.

Coulter told the Nelson County Gazette Thursday morning that now that he has retired from his business, he has the time to devote to public service as magistrate.

“I’ve been a businessman for 35 or 40 years, and Nelson County residents have been good to me,” Coulter said after filing his candidacy paperwork. “This is one way I can give something back to the people of the county.”

Coulter will face incumbent magistrate Sam Hutchins in the May primary.

The deadline to file as a candidate for office is 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30th.
