Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 — Two Democrats have filed as candidates with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office Monday to become candidates for the 50th District state representative.

JAMES DEWEESE. Poplar Flat-area resident James DeWeese filed paperwork with the Kentucky Secretary of State Monday to become a candidate for 50th District state representative. DeWeese was joined by his wife Christy and two children along with Secretary of State, Alison Lundergan Grimes as he made it official.

JAMES DEWEESE

DeWeese is a union representative for Teamsters Local 89.

DeWeese was a candidate for the state representative’s seat in 2016 and in a press release called it “a humbling experience.”

“Since the General Assembly met in January of 2017, we have witnessed several attacks on public education and teachers, access to affordable and quality healthcare, working families, retirees and pensions. There were a lot of promises made during the 2016 election. We in Nelson County were told things like fight for open and honest government and solve the pension crisis and protect our teachers.”

DeWeese said he’s running for state representative because “its time that Nelson County has a voice in Frankfort that understands what it means to be a real Kentuckian.”

KORY MILLER. Boston-area resident Kory Miller also filed as a Democratic candidate for 50th state representative at the Secretary of State’s office on Monday.

DeWeese and Miller will be on the May primary ballot; the winner of the primary will go on to face Republican incumbent state Rep. Chad McCoy in the November general election.
