Primary races set for state rep., senate and 2nd Congressional district seats

Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 — With the filing deadline passed, Republican incumbent state Rep. Chad McCoy will face no opposition in the May primary — but two Democratic challengers will square off for the right to challenge McCoy in November.

Democrats James DeWeese and Kory Miller both have filed as candidates for 50th District state representative. The two Democrats will be on the May 22, 2018 primary ballot.

14TH DISTRICT STATE SENATE. Republican incumbent state Sen. Jimmy Higdon faces no primary challenge from his party in keeping his seat as state senator representing the 14th District. Democratic challenger Stephanie Compton of Taylorsville will square off with Higdon in the November general election.

U.S. REPRESENTATIVE KY-2. Four Democrats have filed for office and will go head-to-head in the May primary to represent their party in the November general election against incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie.

Democrats seeking their party’s nomination include Hank Linderman of Falls of Rough; Brian Pedigo of Glasgow; Rane Eir Olivia Sessions of Webster; and Grant Short of Owensboro.
