Obituary: Carl Donald Comer, 86, Bardstown
Carl Donald Comer, 86, of Bardstown, died peacefully at his home Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born July 24, 1931, in Lebanon to Carl and Dorothy Newton Comer. He grew up in Hodgenville where he was a graduate of Hodgenville High School. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Bellarmine University.
He was a veteran of the Naval Air Force and retired from Kentile Floors. He was a founding member of Bardstown Bassmasters, and most proud to have been a co-founder and long-time manager of the Historic Bardstown Antique Show, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017 and was named Official Antique Show of the Commonwealth by Kentucky State Legislature. He was a member of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral. His Catholic faith was very important to him, as were his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Comer Simpson of Lexington.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann O’Daniel Comer; two daughters, Donna (Don) Pursifull of New Carlisle, Ohio and Diane Comer of Louisville; one son, Doug (Mary) Comer of Shepherdsville; two sisters, Rita Smith of Hodgenville and Ginger Luzon of Louisville; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams of Virginia Beach, Va., Colleen Courtwright of Nicholasville, Carl Harris of Bardstown, Laura Harris of New Carlisle, Ohio, Jordan Simpson of St. Louis, Mo., and Natalie Simpson of Lexington; and three great-grandchildren, Evan Williams, Carolyn Williams, and Henry Courtwright.
The Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, and 8-9:15 a.m. Saturday at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown.
Memorial contributions may go to Hospice of Nelson County or Room in the Inn for Nelson County.
