Obituary: Charles David Ferriell Sr., 71, Loretto

Charles David Ferriell Sr., 71, of Loretto, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born Jan. 2, 1947, in Marion County. He was a retired teacher and coach with Marion County Public Schools, a former member of the U.S. Army National Guard and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Raphael Ferriell; his mother, Dorothy Hayden Medley; his stepfather, James Werner “Curley” Medley; and one infant grandson, Joseph Andrew Ferriell.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Laura Hall Ferriell; four daughters, Tammy Thomas (Pat) of Loretto, Allyson Stine (Timmy) of Springfield, and Susan Livers (Joey) and Elizabeth Long (Gary), both of Lebanon; two sons, Charles Ferriell Jr. (Megan) of Raywick and Steven Ferriell (Amy) of Bardstown; two sisters, Bette Kaye Howell (Fred) of Elizabethtown and Julie Franklin (Brian) of Versailles; two brothers, Bishop William F. Medley of Owensboro and Phil Medley (Lynn) of Bardstown; and 15 grandchildren, Danielle Mattingly, Aaron Mattingly, Sarah Ferriell, Alex Thomas, Tyler Livers, Kyle Thomas, Maria Ferriell, Lauren Ferriell, Jake Thomas, Kameron Ferriell, Trey Stine, Katelyn Livers, Braden Stine, Preston Ferriell and Mallory Ferriell.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at St, Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto with The Most Rev. William F. Medley and Rev. Bryan Lamberson officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, and 8-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service Monday at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers are his brothers-in-law, Dennis, David, Steven, Chris, Mike and Greg Hall and Jeff McGaha, Eddie Masterson, Gary Mattingly and Jude Hamilton. His grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.

The Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto is in charge of arrangements.
