Obituary: James ‘Jimmy’ ‘Barney’ Barnett, 65, Bardstown

James “Jimmy” “Barney” Barnett, 65, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born June 21, 1952, in Bardstown to the late William Hamilton “Ham” and Dorothy Mae Hutchins Barnett. He worked as an appraiser for banks in Bardstown. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Rotary Club, Quarterback Club and was a big UK fan and never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ricky Barnett and Joseph David Barnett.

He is survived by his children, James “Jay” Barnett, Carly (Blaine) Hamilton, and Kendall (Shane) Burgin, all of Bardstown; the mother of his children, Cathy Seyle Barnett of Bardstown; three sisters, Pat Barnett of Bardstown, Susie Comer of Bowling Green, and Jennifer Barnett of Louisville; one brother, Billy (Denise) Barnett of Bardstown; four grandchildren, Olivia Hamilton, Lauren Hamilton, Aubrey Barnett and Nolan White.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Joseph C. Batcheldor celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday, and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service Sunday evening.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home, 1475 New Shepherdsville Road, is in charge of arrangements.
