Obituary: Hazel Louise Knauer Ferguson, 104, Fairfield
Hazel Louise Knauer Ferguson, 104, of Fairfield, with her work on Earth completed, was called home by our Lord on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018. She died at 1:30 a.m. after a short series of age-related illnesses with little to no pain.
She was born Jan. 6, 1914, in Jefferson County and reared on their family’s farm on Tucker Station Road in Jeffersontown, then also known as Knauer’s Pool, where Papa John’s Corporate headquarters is now located.
She was an avid bowler who taught kids to bowl. She traveled widely, and she and another woman established a missionary church in the Philippines in the late 1950’s that was still going strong when last contacted in 2008.
She loved everyone she met. She loved to see and feed the birds. She was a member of Wakeland Baptist Church, American Legion Post 288 in Bloomfield and VFW Post 1170 in Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Bertha (Brooks) Knauer; two sisters, Corine and Hazel’s twin sister, Mable; and three brothers, Chester Knauer, Leslie Knauer, and Bill Knauer.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Cecil “Gene” Ferguson; one daughter, Marillyn Dean (Bobby); one son, David Ferguson (Kim); four grandchildren, Wayne Dean, Dr. Terry Dean (Tabitha), Rhonda Dean, Mary Brown (Randy); two great-grandchildren, Amber Brown (fiance James Stewart) and Morgan Dean; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends worldwide.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home in Mount Washington with the Rev. Tom Sparrow officiating. Burial is in Highland Memory Gardens, veteran’s section, to await her husband Gene, a World War II and Korean War veteran.
Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home in Mount Washington is in charge of arrangements.
