Two deputies injured in scuffle during arrest Monday night of Bardstown man

Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018 — Two Nelson County Sheriff’s Office deputies suffered minor injuries late Monday night while responding to a reported burglary in progress in the area of 3104 Plantation Circle.
At about 11:30 p.m. deputies responding to Plantation Circle on a burglary complaint. Officers found a male subject — Zachery Levi Perkins, 28, of Bardstown — sitting in a 2002 Toyota in the parking lot. After speaking with Perkins, officers determined Perkins had an outstanding arrest warrant. When asked to exit the vehicle, he refused.
When Perkins attempted to flee in his vehicle, the car ran over a deputy’s foot. The second deputy was able to reach in through the driver’s side window and stop the vehicle. Perkins was then taken from the vehicle and placed under arrest.
Perkins suffered lacerations to the head during the arrest. The second deputy suffered a possible hand injury in the struggle with Perkins. Both deputies and Perkins were treated at the scene by Nelson County EMS and then transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital. The deputies were treated and released, as was Perkins, who was arrested and lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
