Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 — With a courtroom crowded with onlookers, Nelson Fiscal Court today gave its unanimous approval to first reading of its approval of a zoning amendment requested by the owners of Woodlawn Springs golf course.

The zoning change would allow the owners to redevelop the golf course property into additional residential areas at Woodlawn Springs.

Magistrate Sam Hutchins made the motion to approve the zoning amendment. While there was no discussion prior to the vote, Judge Executive Dean Watts said the magistrates had reviewed the volumes of testimony and evidence presented during the planning commission public hearing and based their decision on that.

No additional testimony could be heard about the zoning change at today’s fiscal court meeting.

BULKY ITEM STARTS MONDAY. Solid Waste Coordinator John Greenwell reminded the court that bulky item pickup begins Monday, Feb. 26, 2018.

The pickup will begin in Monday in all areas east of US 31E north of Bardstown, and east of KY 49 south of Bardstown. The pickup period will last approximately two weeks, depending on the weather.

Greenwell reminded county residents that their bulky items must be placed on the right-of-way, and not on their private property.

For residents who have their bulky items loaded on trailers, residents who transport their items to the landfill may do so without paying the usual fees.

RURAL SECONDARY ROAD FUNDS. Fiscal Court approved the recommended road improvements that will be paid by the state road fund, which is funded by a share of the tax on motor fuels.

Specific repaving projects include the following state roads in Nelson County:

— KY 46 from US31E to KY 49, 4.3 miles at a cost of $287,161;
— KY 652 from KY 48 to the Spencer County line, four-tenths of a mile at a cost of $38,250;
— KY 2738, six-tenths of a mile starting at KY55 at a cost of $44,359;
— KY 605 beginning at the Washington County Line to US150, 3.6 miles at a cost of $274,845;
— KY 733 beginning at the Bullitt County line to US62, 2.5 miles at a cost of $173,461.

Watts also identified four county road projects to be funded with flex funds. These projects include:

— 1.26 miles of Hilton Lane;
— 1.24 miles of Hutchins Lane;
— seven-tenths of a mile of Nazareth Drive;
— 1.15 miles of Murrays Run Road beginning at Hobbs Lane.

In other business, the court:

— received a settlement check of $521,172 from Nelson County Clerk Elaine Filiatreau. The check represents the excess fees collected by her office that were not needed to fund its operation.
