Obituary: Catherine ‘Cathy’ Dawson Marcum, 65, formerly of New Haven
Catherine “Cathy” Dawson Marcum, 65, of Elizabethtown, formerly of New Haven, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018. She grew up in New Haven where she attended St Catherine School. She was a 1975 graduate of the University of Kentucky as a medical technologist. Upon graduation, she worked at UK Medical Center in Cytogenetic Research and in Blood Bank at Suburban Hospital and UK. She continued her career as a sales representative with Becton Dickinson in Laboratory Equipment. After quitting work to begin a family, she became a founding partner of Exterior Supply Company in Elizabethtown with her husband.
She loved to travel and backpacked through Europe in the 1980’s. She visited many countries in Europe and Asia. She loved rock hounding, was a Master Gardner and a blue ribbon cook and baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rocco and Catherine Dawson; and one daughter Sara Marcum.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years Paul Marcum; two children Ana and Jared;
two sisters, Shannon Whelan and Elaine (Jesse) Flynn; one brother, Rick Dawson; one granddaughter Emma, whom she dearly loved; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who cared for her in her long battle with breast cancer.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at St. Catherine Church in New Haven with burial in the church cemetery with the Rev. Ken Fortener officiating.
