Obituary: Julia Clare Fontaine, SCN, 97, Louisville
Julia Clare Fontaine, SCN, 97, of Louisville, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was born in Chattanooga and was a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 76 years.
After making First Vows, she served in educational ministries. She taught grade school at St. Catherine in Lexington; St. Cecilia School in Louisville; and La Salette in Covington. She taught high school at St. Frances in Owensboro and St. Mary in Leonardtown, Md. She served as a college instructor in the Biology Department of Nazareth College from 1959-1967; she later served as Department Chair at Spalding University.
She earned her PhD in Anatomy from the University of Louisville serving as an Associate Professor. For many years, she served as Director in Community Service for the SCN Community.
She is survived by her nieces, nephews and their families, and by her religious community.
The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at St. Vincent Church at Nazareth. Burial is in the Nazareth Cemetery.
Visitation is 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at Nazareth Home in Louisville. A prayer service is 6:30 p.m. Monday, at St. Vincent Church at Nazareth.
