Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 — A disagreement between two students during lunch Thursday at Bardstown High School sparked a social media rumor there was a threat of a shooting tomorrow at the high school.
According to a Bardstown City Schools press release, the rumor was apparently sparked by a statement or statements by a student involved in lunchroom disagreement. There was no threat made, nor was one intended, school officials say.
“We fully understand the heightened concern that students and parents have at this particular time regarding any discussion of school shootings or threats of school shootings,” the statement read.
But some social media users have criticized the school district for failing to send out notification to parents regarding a possible threat. Officials say there was no notification necessary because there was no direct threat.
School officials discussed the situation with the Bardstown Police Department who agree with the way school officials handled it.
The statement assured parents that “we are sensitive to your concerns and assure you that should we receive any threats that would jeopardize the safety of our students, they will be taken seriously and acted upon.”
Classes will take place Friday at the high school as regularly scheduled.
