Bardstown man arrested, charged with shooting deaths of four dogs

Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 — A Bardstown man faces charges stemming from allegations that he shot and killed four hunting dogs after police investigated a complaint that he was firing a gun near his McIntyre Lane home, not far from the Nelson-Washington county line.
Joseph William Hutchins, 48, of Bardstown was arrested and faces charges that include criminal mischief, torturing a dog, menacing, tampering with physical evidence and trespassing.
At about 10:20 p.m. Friday, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded to McIntrye Lane for a complaint that an intoxicated male was firing a weapon in the direction of the caller’s home and shooting at dogs.
Hutchins was found by officers by a shed in the back yard. According to WHAS 11, officers said Hutchins admitted to shooting the dogs, and took deputies to their location. Officers found four hunting dogs dead in a kennel on a neighboring property.
Hutchins was taken into custody and lodged in the Nelson County Jail.
