Obituary: Theresa Joan Swift 84, Bardstown

Theresa Joan Swift 84, of Bardstown, passed peacefully into Heaven on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018. She was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Bridgeport, Ohio to the late Michael and Geraldine Shedwell. She was a graduate of Nazareth Academy. Her early career included work for Catholic Charities West Va. and later included teaching at St. Joseph Elementary School in Bardstown. She accepted her final position as Director of St. Vincent de Paul Mission Store, an outreach ministry of St. Joseph Parish, where she retired at the age of 73.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Swift; and one son, Michael J. Cole.

She is survived by two daughters, Geri Cole Bailey (Greg Still) and Melissa Cole Beasley (Jon), both of Atlanta; two sons, David S. Cole (Beth) of Tampa, Fla. and Daniel M. Cole (Natalie) of Bardstown; grandchildren Amber Swerdfeger Lyvers and Dannie; Sarah Swerdfeger Kirkland and RJ; Nathan Cole; Julie Cole; Aaron Nietzel; James Bailey and Catherine Cole; and great-grandchildren, James Michael Barnhardt, Tallulah Analise Nietzel and Annabelle Grace Kirkland.

The Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with the Rev. Terry Bradshaw and Rev. Leon Alexander officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018, and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home with a 6 p.m. prayer service Friday evening.

The Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
