Bowling named Bardstown City Schools district director of personnel

Monday, March 5, 2018 — Paul Bowling, the principal of Bardstown Elementary School, was recently named as the district’s new personnel director effective July 1, 2018.

Brent Holsclaw, superintendent of the Bardstown City Schools made the announcement last week. Bowling was recommended by a screening committee due to his experience with the district and with personnel matters. He will take over the position after Joey Downs retires at the end of June.

The Director of District Personnel is responsible for the development and implementation of human resource policies and administrative procedures to meet the needs of the district and to comply with state and federal laws. Bowling also will oversee the management of human resource activities such as recruitment, performance reviews, benefits, training, and employee relations.

Bowling began his career with the school district in 1996 as a math teacher at Bardstown Middle School. He then served as guidance counselor at the middle school before being selected as assistant principal at the Primary School. Bowling then returned to the middle school as assistant principal. In 2010, he was named principal of Bardstown Elementary School, a position he still holds. Bowling also served 21 years in the Air Force/Air National Guard.

He did his undergraduate work at the University of Kentucky and holds a Master’s degree and Rank 1 from Western Kentucky University. He is certified in Instructional Leadership as both a Supervisor of Instruction and Principal.
