Obituary: Judith Lynn Geoghegan Richardson Jett, 71, Cox’s Creek

JUDITH LYNN GEOGHEGAN RICHARDSON JETT

Judith Lynn Geoghegan Richardson Jett, 71, of Cox’s Creek, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at University Hospital. She was born Dec. 14, 1946, in Louisville. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Zoology from U of K, attended U of L Law School, and after graduation, was requested to be a law school professor the next semester. She attended Yale University Law School, studying for Advanced LLM degree. She was awarded the Kellogg Fellowship, awarded a fellowship to Cornell University to study Japanese culture where she was able to live in Japan during that time. She was legal consultant for Turtle Mountain Tribe of Chippewa in North Dakota, served as a volunteer firefighter for the city of Brandenburg, served as dean of students for St. Catherine College, and was a certified instructor for graduated drivers licensing in Kentucky.

She was a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of PATH Coalition, Smoke-Free-Kentucky, KY Bar Association, Democratic Women’s Club, and Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. She was a former member of Boston Christian Church, and a current member of Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church in Lexington, where she serves on the session.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wade Franklin Richardson II; her father, John Hollan Geoghegan; and one brother, John “Johnny” Hollan Geoghegan.

She is survived by her husband, Shelby C. Jett of Cox’s Creek; five children, Wade F. “Trey” Richardson III and Hollyn (Rob Karlen) Richardson, both of Louisville, Shelby K. (Katie) Jett of Pee Wee Valley, Samuel “Sam” C. (Melissa) Jett of Independence, and Stephen Jett of Lexington; her mother, Fern Marie Parrish Geoghegan of Boston; one brother, Terry L. Geoghegan of Bardstown; nine grandchildren, Lily Jane “Jayna” Karlen, Nolan Jett, Simon Jett, Stella Jett, Abbie Jett, Nora Kate Jett, George Jett, Sturgill Jett, and Micah Jett; cousins, Stewart (Ella Mae) McClaskey, Allen (Linda) McClaskey, Marcia (Minor) Harmon, Jane (John) Swarts, Elise Hogan Everett, Steve Mathews, Landon Mathews, Ginger Derekson, Martha “Myrt” Geoghegan, Len Geoghegan, and Diana (Mike) MacDonald; and numerous dear nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2018, at Barlow Funeral Home with burial in Richardson Cemetery in Midway in Meade County.

Visitation is noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018, and 9-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may go to Meadowthorpe Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Boston Christian Church, or Heifer International.
